Residents of shantytown on Corazon de Jesus defend their houses from some 400 policemen and members of demolition team with molotov bombs, empty bottles and fist-sized rocks in San Juan City, east of Manila.

From time to time, authorities accompanied with bulldozer and firetrucks try to advance on the barricade of the residents but move farther back when defiant residents hurled the projectiles and cause molotov bombs explosions.

What finally sent the residents fleeing were tear gas canisters fired inside their barricade. 33 people were reported to have suffered injuries. Most of them are policemen and demolition crews.

Since last year, 400 families on the area have been relocated to make way for building the new city hall and a one-stop-shop government center. © Richard Reyes
